Hi, my name is Amy, and this is my third year on the Okanagan Zone Ski Team. Ski racing has always been a big part of my life, and I skied with the Vernon Ski Club for 10 years before joining OZST. Since I graduated high school last June, I am stoked to be able to spend a year focusing solely on skiing!
I am writing this from our second pre-season camp at Panorama. Unfortunately, we were only able to get here a few days ago due to a lack of snow, but luckily, we were able to take advantage of good early-season conditions at Lake Louise and Sun Peaks for our first camp to build a good position and platform. We are now working to bring that base into the gates and look for more speed.
Although it has been a little chilly here at Panorama, the snow has been excellent. Our sessions are shorter than we would get at home, but the quality makes up for it. The team has been putting in the work to make the most out of every single turn as we get for the first races of the season.
Looking ahead, we will finish off this week here at Panorama, and then the team will split up for the weekend. Some of us will be heading to our first race of the season, two slaloms at Norquay, while the rest of the team heads home to train and go back to school. Following that, we will train at home for a weekend and then make our way back to Panorama for the Christmas series. Our first year will be looking to get some points on the board at the first few races, while returning athletes like myself are looking to perform at our best.
So far, it has been good to get the whole team together for these first few camps, and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can bring as a team to our upcoming races. I feel like everyone's confidence is building with more time on snow. I'm definitely starting to feel more prepared to race and looking forward to an exciting season!Â
